How do I fix Mail freezing after iOS 18.5 update on iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Yes, this just started yesterday for me (though I updated to 18.5 two weeks ago), so perhaps there's some problem with the mail servers that can be identified and fixed, hopefully soon.

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings

I am having the mail app freezing issue since yesterday June 4, 2025. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max with 256GB. The only thing which works is restarting the iPhone. My wife is also having the same problem on an identical phone today.

How do we make Apple aware of this issue?

@wacwacextreme – Was having same issue. Spoke with support and they advised to do a force restart of device. For my iPhone 13 Pro that’s a quick press volume up, then quick press volume down, then hold power off until Apple logo appears then let go. After restart mail work g fine - been 4 hours. Hope works for you guys too 😀

This worked for me too. So far so good after a few hours.

As this is just a "community forum", do we know if a formal "bug report" has been reported to Apple that we can follow?

I’m having same issue and it started after I upgraded iOS to 18.5. I can’t even read my email. The mail app on my Apple iPad works fine. That is what I’m using now until Apple resolves issue

Not only freezes but it also does not show the number of unread Messages on its icon.

Same thing here! I thought it was just my phone…..until I searched for answers! Hard to work on the go, when I can’t get into my emails!

It would appear I also have some users experiencing the same... however I'm curious... what mail platforms are you experiencing this with... Gmail, iCloud.com, Hotmail, Exchange? My users are using Exchange & hotmail. They too are running 18.5 but its across multiple lines of iPhones however they appear to be the Pro models that are affected.

O thank goodness, it's not just me. I'm so frustrated, you're right, it's after the IOS 18.5 upgrade. I can open my Email App but either I see a white screen - or - I'll see my Inbox with no messages in it, and the screen is frozen so I can't go anywhere. I have to keep restarting my iPhone14 to be able to see my email and have the phone recognize what I am selecting. Please fix this Apple, this is painful.

Same here on iPhone 12 Pro Max. Yesterday morning I checked my mail and was surprised to have no new work mail. About an hour later it finally updated. Now it just hangs when I try to go into a mailbox. Ten minutes and if still hasn’t updated and is basically frozen. Often when I open Mail it’s just a white screen. If I go to switch apps then the mail reappears, but is still frozen checking for mail. I have three different mailboxes and they all behave the same.

I hope Apple release a bug fix soon!

This is also happening on my Iphone 11. I even tried leaving the phone off for several hours, then rebooting. This did not help, it froze again about 5 min after I rebooted it. Is there some way to go back to version 18.4? It was working fine then.

It probably won’t last. Didn’t for me.

After recent iOS update Mailbox screen freezes. What s the fix besides restarting phone on iPhone 13pro max
