Ongoing Sound Delay Issue with macOS and HomePod - Apple, Please Address This!
Hi everyone,
I know this issue has been brought up countless times, there are literally hundreds of posts across Reddit, Apple forums, and other tech communities. But it's still unresolved, and I wanted to raise it again clearly
and directly.
When using macOS (tested on a brand-new Mac Studio fresh out of the box, and two different MacBook Pros), there’s consistently a noticeable delay of several seconds between video playback and audio output when streaming all system sounds to a HomePod. This makes watching videos, playing games or editing media practically unusable.
The core issue seems to lie in how HomePod handles mDNS packets specifically from the native macOS applications when the "all system sound" option is selected.
To clarify: Everything is fully updated. Devices have been reset multiple times. I've tried every recommended troubleshooting step extensively, so please, let's skip the usual suggestions of "reset your devices," "check your network," or "update your software."
I've seen and tried them all. The delay remains.
It would be fantastic to finally get Apple's attention and get a real, lasting solution to this issue. Clearly, this isn't an isolated or rare problem—it's widespread enough to warrant genuine action.
Thanks for any additional insights or support to get this issue escalated to Apple as this issue exist over 4 years now.
