Why are watermarks added to images on my iPhone?

Depends on the app you are using to take those pictures or the source of imported pictures. What apps are involved?

The default Camera app will not add a watermark, but if using a third party Camera app, it would not be unusual to see a watermark in the free version of that app until an in-app purchase was made.
