There is no such Apple statement.

Apple does not take a stance on it.

I base my statement on over 35 years of experience in IT.

VPN stands for "Virtual Private Network".

The purpose of a VPN is to create a secure tunnel between your device (computer, phone, tablet, etc) and a private network such as your employers in house network so that you can access resources on that network without the need to directly expose those resources to the public internet.

Using a VPN to access the Internet establishes a secure tunnel between your device and the VPN hosting provider. After that, the data traffic leaves the VPN providers network and continues on to the destination exactly as if you were not using a VPN at all.

The end result is you are giving the VPN hosting provider access to ALL of your data traffic to the Internet. Your data being exposed to a single entity who can collect and potentially sell that data.

In other words, using a VPN to access the internet is worse than pointless, it's downright dangerous.
