Using Microsoft Edge browser on iPhone

Today I reinstalled macOS Sequoia on my MacBook Pro. I've used certain Microsoft software—primarily Word and Excel—on my Mac and iPhone for years. Well, a couple of years ago I discovered the Microsoft Authenticator app, and I've been using it with my iPhone to autofill some passwords.

When I reinstalled Excel on my MacBook today, I used Authenticator on my phone to verify my Microsoft account login credentials. All went well, but I see that "Autofill via Authenticator ends in July 2025." To keep using this same autofill capability, says Microsoft, I need to install the Microsoft Edge browser on my phone.

Hm-m-m ... . While I do use some Microsoft stuff on my devices, I've never, ever thought of using their Edge browser. I'm just wondering whether some of you have had any experience—good or bad—using Edge on your iPhones. Or on your Mac. Will the Edge browser handle autofill tasks that Safari won't or can't? What's the advantage, if any?

You and your data are being incrementally migrated onto Microsoft apps and services. This will usually include Microsoft 365 Copilot (formerly Office) and the Copilot AI, Azure, Windows, Edge, OneDrive, Authenticator, and other Microsoft services.

If you do follow this path, you’ll probably best be served with running Windows 11 on a PC, or potentially Windows 11 on Arm.

Apple has had an Authenticator app built in for quite a while, fully integrated. More recently, Apple combined the various existing password, passkey, authentication, and related functions together into Password app available on Mac, iPad, and iPhone. The Apple apps are integrated with the Apple authentication services, as well as optionally sharing authentication tokens and passkeys across devices associated with an Apple Account via iCloud Keychain.

As for the other part of your question, here is a detailed comparison across browsers:

Edge is a fork of Google Chrome. It is a capable browser.
