Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Expansion”

Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Expansion” “/Library/Application Support/Canon_Inc_IC/UniversalInstaller/Uninstall/Uninstaller/UniversalUninstaller.bundle/Contents/PlugIns/UIxInstallLib.bundle/Contents/_CodeSignature/CodeResources” could not be backed up.

2 TB drive


I just purchased a Seagate Expansion 22TB external hard drive to back up my MacBook Pro. Initially, the backup started fine, but after a few minutes, I received an error message and the backup stopped.


I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Restarted my MacBook Pro
  • Ran First Aid on the drive using Disk Utility
  • Erased and reformatted the drive


Unfortunately, the same error keeps appearing and the backup fails again.

Has anyone experienced this or know what might be causing it—and how to fix it?
