imac, ethernet not fitting in the back of iMac

I have just got a new iMac, 2 years old, and I use to on my old iMac connect to the internet by plugging an ethernet cable into the back of the computer. When I put the same ethernet cable into the back of the new computer the ethernet cable will not fit why?

from Tech Specs of 24-in iMacs from 2023:

Gigabit Ethernet was available via a port on the power brick if configured as an optional US$30 upgrade at the time of initial system purchase.

did you pay the extra for that option?

if not, you will need to add a dongle, such as this one from the Apple Store, US$29.95:

There is no Ethernet port on the back of any of the 24" Apple Silicon iMacs.

On the 24" M4 iMacs, there will be two or four multi-purpose USB-C (USB, USB4, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt) ports on the back, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the side. If you ordered a M4 iMac that has Gigabit Ethernet, your Ethernet port will be located on the power brick.

That's why your Ethernet cable won't plug into any of the ports on the back. You need to look on the power brick.
