How to fix I photo that is bogged down with too many photos

So, can you tell us a bit more?

By "I photo" do you mean the Photos app? or something else?
In what way is this "bogged down?" Can you give examples or include screenshots to help us understand your problem?
How do you know that you have "too many Photos? Are you getting error messages? How many pictures do you have? What is the size of your Library in GB? What, in fact, is actually happening?
Are you using iCloud Photos to synchronize your devices?
Do you have “Optimize Storage” checked in Settings
Where does your Mac's Photos Library reside-- in the Pictures folder of your internal drive, or on an external drive? or on a network? on iCloud drive?
Do you have more than 10% free storage on your Mac?
Do you have more than 10% free storage on your iCloud account?
Are you using any 3rd party "Cleaning" or "Duplicates" apps?
Has this problem always existed, or did it just start? Can you think of anything that changed that might affect your device?

Richard,

I will do my best to answer your questions when I get back from some chores. To put this in perspective,

I am passed 70 years of age. When I started my business, 45 years ago, we were all using pencils and the closest thing to a computer were IBM punch cards. That's where I'm coming from. I am using the Apple " I photo program, " or " App " as it now referred to. There are 16K photos stored, and it just started slowing way down to do anything, sometimes with the proverbial spinning wheel. Only after I added some more photos, did it start. Will have to look around to answer your other questions. Best F. John
