Hv a brand new macbook pro, using imovie..some jpeg photos imported go green and do not show . I hv even reduced size of photos to about 10MB but still not show.

Hi,
Try putting one of the green photos on your desktop and "save as" a png file. Then import into iMovie as see if the photo displays correctly.
You can also try placing one of the green photos into a newly created iMovie project.
Failing either of the above, try deleting preferences by opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new blank library. Reopen your original library to get back to your projects. Now see if the green display issue is corrected.
