Print to HP Smart Tank 7000 from MacOS 10.15

Hi, This question was asked recently and the answer referred to using air print but i didn't understand the method of doing this - can anyone help?

I have a 2013 Mac running Catalina 10.15, unfortunately this is the highest version i can have, I want to print to an HP Smart Tank 7005 but it requires OS12/13 or above, does anyone know what other print apps will work for me?

Thanks

You mentioned both a "7000" and a "7005". I'm guessing that "7000" is the series and "7005" is a specific model.

HP Support – HP Smart Tank 7000 series

The HP Support page shows no drivers for Catalina. However, if you bring up the specifications, under "Mobile printing capability", there are the magic words "Apple AirPrint." That's good news. If your printer has AirPrint, a Mac can print to it without separate drivers.

About AirPrint - Apple Support lists

  • HP Smart Tank 7001 All-In-One Printer
  • HP Smart Tank 7002 All-In-One Printer
  • HP Smart Tank 7005 All-In-One Printer
  • HP Smart Tank 7006 All-In-One Printer

as AirPrint-compatible.

See:

The HP Smart - Mac app mentioned in the HP Support article – and on the driver pages – requires macOS 12 or higher. So you won't be able to run it to do a "guided connection and setup". Instead, follow the rest of the instructions in the Support articles.
