Restoring from Time Machine reset Date Added/Created/Modified in Finder UI

After restoring a time machine backup to Macbook (pro, 13inch, m2), all of the date Added/Created/Modified info in the finder UI are all set to the date/time of when the time machine backup was restored (not created). This is despite file > get info showing the correct created/modified info. I would therefore like to update finder to correctly display and sort this information.

What I've tried:

  • Force Quit > Relaunch Finder.
  • SMC/NVRAM reset
  • Safe Boot

Full Context of time machine restoration:

  • Wiped out all data on mac through recovery assistant, reinstalled latest sonoma version (14.7.6), restored time machine that originated from the exact same device. Software versions from original system and time machine image match.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.7

As a test, when I move a file from a folder on my Desktop to the Desktop itself, I launch the Time Machine browser and view the contents of that Desktop folder from two days ago. I select and restore that same file in its original folder location.

What I observe with the restored file in its folder on my Desktop is the creation and modified date are the same from November 2024 — and not the current date/time of the actual restore (today).

Tested: macOS Sequoia v15.5.
