What Final Cut Pro version works on Big Sur 11, and where to download?

What version of Final Cut Pro will work with Big Sur 11.xx and where can I download the version that will work? I have an iMac 27 inch with 5K display. Hard to let go!

The only version available for purchase is the current version. Once you have purchased the current version, you would be able to download the version compatible with Big Sur. You would need to find someone with a computer that can run FCP 11.1.1 You can then log into the App Store with your Apple ID and credit card. Buy the application and sign out. Once you're done that you can boot into Big Sur, go to the App Store with your Apple ID, and find Final Cut Pro on your purchased page. When you go to download you will be offered the last available for Big Sur, which I believe is 10.6.5.

P.S. Some features in 10.6.5 won't work in Big Sur.

The license for FCP allows you to install on any macs that you own and control.

I bought it in 2011, and I and my family have used it, legally, on perhaps a dozen difference macs since then. I'm currently on an M4 Pro MBP (released in November 2024).

That said, you should really consider whether you do want to purchase it. You may not get the same experience as you would on a more recent mac.

I suggest you try iMovie, which is free. Maybe it does all that you need.

Another alternative is DaVinci Resolve, which is also free and apparently less demanding in terms of OS versions. Some people use both Resolve and FCP. Resolve, even in the free version, is very powerful (though perhaps a bit less beginner friendly than FCP).
