Can't turn off listening mode on MacOS Airpods pro 2

Hi, for the majority of my airpods usage at my desk i like to just have noise levels off completely, no transparency or noise cancelling, mainly to save on battery and i don't need either one unless I'm outside.

Now I'm very surprised that Apple would have such bad user experience on this, not only does the off option doesn't show up by default on my macos toolbar settings for the airpods, but even if I go to the actual settings and check the option for "Off listening mode" it still doesn't show up?

Still no "off" option from the airpods control centre in the toolbar, yet you have the "adaptive" option which is the least useful, when I'm working at my desk I really don't want any of these modes draining my battery. I have tried reconnecting the airpods and restarting my mac mini.

Please if anyone knows how i can get the "off" option back I would be appreciative, thank you.

Mac mini, macOS 15.5
