2024 Macbook Air won't update

I just bought a new 2024 Macbook Air and it will not update to the macOS Sonoma 14.7.6 or newer updates. I get an error message saying "Faield to personalize the software update. Please try again. An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your interest connection and try again."

I have tried several different internet connections and they also result in the same error message. I just bought this laptop, should I return it?

Please help.

One of the causes of this problem seems to be when an automatic firmware update goes wrong. In those cases, it may be necessary to use a second Mac, running Apple Configurator, to get the Mac with the firmware problem up and running.

That might require taking or sending the Mac to Apple or to an Apple Authorized Service Facility – where they would hopefully the equipment and knowledge to carry out the procedure. (Be sure to back up any data before taking the Mac in for service, as they might have to erase everything on it.)

if you bought the Mac recently enough that you can return it, that would be another option to consider.
