Can I use HomePod mini to play my iTunes library without Apple Music?

Hoping something, anything, has changed in the period of three years since the last time someone asked us and deduced that the HomePod mini only plays music for Apple Music subscribers. Please tell me that it’s possible to play the Jillian songs that are in my music library… Which is primarily why I have not subscribed to Apple Music. If you’re younger and or for whatever other reason building your music library, I can totally see the point. But I can barely listen to all the stuff I own already and the main reason to have the HomePod mini, for me is the quality of sound (which is prodigious, I must say).

Any better news at this point in time?

Hey! I totally feel you on this — owning your music is a vibe, especially with a library you’ve built over the years.

The good news? There has been a bit of progress.

While the HomePod mini still leans heavily into Apple Music integration, you can play your personal music library from your iPhone to your HomePod mini using AirPlay. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Music app on your iPhone.
  2. Start playing a song from your library (even if it’s not part of Apple Music).
  3. Tap the AirPlay icon (looks like a triangle with circles above it).
  4. Select your HomePod mini — and boom, it's playing your stuff.

It’s not as seamless as asking Siri to play specific non-Apple Music tracks, but it does get your library onto the speaker with that same great sound.

Let me know if you want a step-by-step or run into any snags while setting it up — always happy to help! 🙌
