Failed due to MOV file "not readable

Hi, now I have to leave work after spending the last 3 hours trying to figure out why Compressor can't read and then convert to Prores 422HQ or 444.

The computer is a 5 months old iMac M4 , Mac OS: Sequoia 15.5 16GB RAM and freespace on the hard drive. I have tried to change the properties of the files (I had them of course but just gave every one else the right ot read and write just to test it). I have moved the files to other drives. I have also altered the Location just in case. Even though it says Compressor can't read the files. I can of course import the files in Final Cut but right now we are planning to edit this documentary online so I want ot start making it to Pro Res so I just want initially to make Pro res copy of todays shoot. I started to to use Compressor two years ago and it has worked fine, extremely well as a matter of fact. . But haven't done any work the last year so I really thought I just have to update my skill. Now after several restarts and reinstallments , going to the library and throwing out the Compressor-folder etc etc I start to question if I can do so much more. Maybe someone has experienced anything like this? Thanks in advance for your effort to help me out here. /cheers Leif

Make sure that Compressor has Full Disk Access in System Settings->Privacy & Security.

Commiserations on your plight! Although I am no expert in this area, your post to the community deserves some response. If you are still looking for answers: at the least we may provide more opportunity for others with the expertise to share their experience.

I understand the .mov file extension format that compressor finds unreadable, was developed by Apple, and is generally associated with "QuickTime".

Wondering if the version you are you using is Compressor 4.10:

(else perhaps may need updating ?)

The Compressor User Guide - Apple Support provides helpful articles:

Eg: For Compressor 4.10

Import video and audio in Compressor - Apple Support

says:

:When you import source media to Compressor, you create a transcoding job to which you can add multiple presets or destinations that specify how your media will be transcoded."

and

"After you import source media, you can view and modify job properties, apply transcoding instructions, and transcode the batch."

Thank you !!

I updated to latest yesterday so yes 4.10.

the MOV file is 4 K files from LUMIX cameras with a common codec HEIC (as I remember). MOV is only a container as I have been taught.

I have tried to do exactly that you quote.

As I remember I have transcoded directly from SD cards before. But in looking for possible faults I have copied the cards content to my hard drives.

Right now my guess is either the M4 IMac or the OS that Sequoia 15.5 (I write this at home without my computer so I have to rely on my memory)

I add

all drives arae connected by USb-C and very fast cables as it is quite a lot of material

A bit odd for me as a solution because it is explained (at least in Swedish) that it grants Compressor full access not to the drives/files/folders etc but to mail, Messages, Safari, Home... ... and certain administrative settings. BUT now it works. If anyone understands the logic here one and would like to explain I will be an eager reader. So far very grateful for help!!

Cheers
