How long does it take to receive refund for a failed transaction on Apple Account?

A couple of days ago, I tried to send $3500 to my bank account to pay my rent. When I tried to send it, it was declined by Apple. Figuring it may be too large, I just sent $2000 for my rent. When I attempted to do so, the spinning animation spun longer than usual then chimed. Signaling it went through. Within moments, I get a text from my bank stating the transaction was declined. I checked my bank account immediately and the funds weren’t there. When I checked my Apple wallet, the funds were removed. I called my bank and they informed me that the fraud department declined the transfer. The phone representative also informed me that they were a former Apple user and this was an issue he was familiar with. The representative instructed me to google this issue and to call apple support immediately. They explained that this is a known issue. I have since contacted apple support and filled a claim with Apple Pay. I was told this can take up to 45 days. This is ridiculous!! I have supplied them with screenshots showing the transaction was denied and then sent them the text message where my bank declined the transaction. The phone representative also couldn’t show any proof of where any other transactions took place after that moment to suggest the funds were spent. I went a step further and provided a screenshot of my bank account activity. The representative agreed that the funds weren’t received.

So my question now is, how can I expedite this matter? I can’t pull another $2000 to pay my rent. How long is the average wait time? Should I contact the FTC? What other steps can I take? Are there others out there going through this currently? Because I see posts going back 2 years.

Apple is not a bank and does not approve or decline transactions. Are you sending funds from Apple Cash to your bank? Or from Apple Savings to your bank?

Declined transactions are typically returned in about business days.

you’ll want to inquire with your bank as they declined the transfer.

For Apple Cash, you’ll want to contact Green Dot bank, the bank that provides Apple Cash accounts by calling 877/233-8552.

Yes I contacted Green Dot Bank and filled a dispute the following day. Green Dot stated they don’t know what went wrong, then claimed that my financial institution usually always has the funds. My financial institution stated that Apple Cash is known for this. They are also the ones that referred me to google this situation to see for myself. I’m just tired of the constant conflicting statements from both sides. I just want my funds returned, so I can keep up my responsibilities.

Well here’s an update.

On May 27,2025 at 2:15pm, I received an alert on Apple Cash that $2,000 was added. I was so happy. THAT WAS SHORT LIVED! 2 minutes later at 2:17pm, they took it back. I immediately called Apple Support and the representative stated, our decision is final and no further information will be given. The representative was rude and started laughing. In no way did I ever disrespect her or use obscene language. Yet, she chose to laugh. She told me if I had more evidence in the future, my case would be reopened.

I then contacted my financial institution. They offered to do a three way call to cross reference confirmation numbers with Apple Cash. Apple Cash refused. (Against their policy) Feeling down, but not defeated, I called the fraud department at my financial institution again and got a supervisor. This woman explained that this has been investigated deeply by higher ups. She further explained why the transaction was declined in deeper details. She explained that Apple attempted to send the funds 3 times repeatedly, which triggered a fraud alert. The representative stated that this wasn’t supposed to happen. Only one transaction attempt should have happened. This would have caused the funds to never been removed from my account.

Today I finally got my bank statement showing I never received the funds and did another dispute. Let’s see how this goes.
