Reset/Restart Home Pod option gone in HomePodOS 18.5

Discovered this today. The options to Reset or Restart my HomePod Mini are no longer showing in the Home App (Mac or iPhone). Don't know fit this started in earlier updates.

Reddit users are reporting the same issue.

I removed power from my HomerPod Mini to restart. No change.

The Home App says theHomePod Mini is “not responding" BUT it continues to take commands and act on them. No change in its operations. I can’t select it as a hub either.

Am I nuts?

Nah! Seems nothing ever stays the same for long. Fortunately, Apple's online articles are kept up-to-date.

Apple Support's online article: Restart HomePod - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Restart HomePod

If HomePod isn’t responding normally, you can restart it. You need to be near HomePod to restart it.

  1. Go to the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap HomePod, then tap .
  3. Do one of the following:
    • For a single HomePod: Tap Reset HomePod, then tap Restart HomePod.
    • For a stereo pair: Tap Restart HomePod.

This guide is for HomePod software version 18 or later."

Hope this works for you :-)

I just checked my Mac on 15.4.1 and any stereo paired HomePods show Restart option only and when I click on that nothing happens. However I’m seeing I need to update them. OG HomePods have the option.

The iPad Home App has no Restart or Reset option either. I’m not sure what’s going on if they’ve changed this. I’ve not updated my iPad or iPhone to 18.5 yet. As you’ve mentioned Restarts can be done by unplugging for 10-15 seconds, Resets can be done manually also.

My iPad mini updated to 18.5 and has the options, just restarted my HP minis. I still have to update an Apple TV 4K which could be affecting this. It’s a Hub.

I suggest you update all devices! Then test

Then you can try to restore it on the Mac. If this doesn’t work you can try the manual Reset by pressing the top. Method. Reset HomePod or HomePod mini - Apple Support

Restore HomePod mini with a Mac or PC

If you can't reset HomePod mini, you can restore it. Restoring your HomePod mini resets it and updates it to the latest software.

  1. Plug HomePod mini into your computer using the USB-C cable that came with it.
  2. Wait a few seconds. If you're using a Mac, open a Finder window. If you're using a PC, open the latest version of the Apple Devices app or iTunes.
  3. Select your HomePod when it appears on your computer.
  4. Click Restore HomePod.

You'll see a notification on your Mac or PC when HomePod mini is done restoring. After you restore HomePod mini, you can set up HomePod mini again.
