What do I need to power my Apple Cinema Display 2009?

I bought an Apple Cinema Display 2009 at auction. It was titled as an iMac which I knew something was wrong when there was absolutely no buttons anywhere. Anyways I don’t own a iMac or MacBook at the moment. But I need to find out if the display works or not. It didn’t come with a power supply but I did have one that fit the power port.

it has a mini display port male, usb b male and its MagSafe port. I bought a mini display port female to hdmi male adapter. Plugged it into my dell laptop and nothing happened. Is something else needed to power on this display other than the power cord and mini display port? I even plugged the usb port in trying that. I do not have anything to plug the MagSafe into but from my knowledge that’s just to charge the laptop as you’re using the monitor. I just need some sign that there’s power in the display. If not are there any repair resources or information out there so I’m not totally upside down on this purchase?

thank you!

The main issue is very likely the adapter. It's not possible to go from HDMI to Mini-display port, since the adapter cannot magically produce the Mini-Display port signal. The adapter you bought is likely the reverse case: Mini-Display Port to HDMI, which is why it's not working.

Not sure what you are using for power, but the LED Cinema Display just uses a traditional 3 prong computer power cable with. circular shroud to cover the area on the back of the display.

If your Dell laptop has a Thunderbolt 3 /4 (USB-C) port you could use a Thunderbolt 3 to Mini-Display Port adapter.

for example click here ➜ Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Mini-Display Port Adapter - Amazon.com

Apple's user guide for that display:

The other connections on the cable harness are not required to get the display to work. The USB-A cable is just to enable the USB ports on the back.
