Unable to set up Eve Smart Plug in Home app

A quick search for this issue found two different ways to set up an Eve smart plug. One, which may be more recent, said you could add Eve Energy to the platform of your choice; the other advice was to use the Eve app to set it up first, then use the settings in the app to add it to the Home app.
If you have tried and failed to add the device directly to Home you might have success via the Eve app method. This is the set of instruction I found for that.
